MCIC (Metro Chicago Information Center) was founded in 1990 by a consortium of business and philanthropic leaders at the Commercial Club of Chicago to regularly collect demographics and baseline data on social policy and human needs for the 6-county metropolitan Chicago region.

Soon, MCIC learned that social service organizations were not just looking for information; they were looking for answers to questions. In response to this need, MCIC began to collect and use data to foster a better understanding of the dynamics of social change and quality of life, as well as promoting its use in understanding and addressing issues of concern to the public sector.

Today, MCIC works from a fundamental philosophy that better information produces better decisions. The more organizations know about themselves, the people they serve, and the environments in which they work, the better they will be at making decisions, allocating resources, and maximizing impact.

As a not-for-profit organization, MCIC understands the unique dynamics of the public sector and is highly regarded as an unbiased, authoritative source of quality research, information, and consulting services. MCIC makes data and information real and understandable, and does so for the public benefit (at no charge) or at a price affordable to organizations of all sizes.
